Vegas Strong

On the night of 1 October, 2017, a gunman opened fire on a crowd of concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival on the Las Vegas Strip, leaving 58 people dead and more than 700 injured. The lone perpetrator fired more than 1,100 rounds from his suite on the 32nd floor of the nearby Mandalay Bay Hotel. The perpetrator’s motive remains unknown. The entire Las Vegas community was devastated, but yet found the courage to immediately respond for assistance. Many lives were saved by the numerous off-duty military, off-duty firefighters, and off-duty law enforcement personnel, from throughout the country, who were enjoying the concert. These heroes addressed battle field wounds saving many lives. The civilians who assisted, the hospital staff, the many blood donors who responded and all in that moment of feeling confused, angry, and empty. Civilians built a memorial garden in the city of Las Vegas that helps alleviate the anger, sorrow, and confusion. The NLPOA Las Vegas Chapter helped raise money for one of their own, Officer Charleston Hartfield, LVMPD, who died as a result of this tragedy. The NLPOA Las Vegas Chapter will forever bear witness and honor each of the victims of this tragedy.
